Its the Cuban Missile Crisis ep y’alll! This episode is Part 5 of the BNP Original Series, Revisiting Fidel and the Cuban Revolution, covering 13 days of global pins and needles intensity from the 16th to the 28th of October 1962, where the world’s two superpowers came within a hair’s breath of cataclysmic nuclear war.

At the peak point in this crisis, millions of lives, untold ecological devastation and the very balance of world affairs sat perched on the shoulders of a single Soviet Submarine officer, who was the lone dissenter on his crew, preventing the unanimous officer approval required for use of a nuclear torpedo off the coast of Cuba.

In 1962, there was no easy or even feasible way for a submerged Soviet submarine to maintain communications with the Kremlin thousands of miles away. Thus, the decision of whether or not to use force as a response to an American blockade of Cuban bound ships fell to the consciences of three solitary men.
