National Geographic has called Don George “a legendary travel writer and editor.” George wrote the bestselling Lonely Planet Guide to Travel Writing, and has edited ten acclaimed literary travel anthologies, including A Moveable Feast, The Kindness of Strangers, By the Seat of My Pants, and Better Than Fiction. In a quarter-century of adventuring, George has been Global Travel Editor for Lonely Planet Publications and Travel Editor for the San Francisco Examiner & Chronicle and for Salon.com, where he founded the award-winning Wanderlust site. Currently George is Editor at Large and Book Review Columnist for National Geographic Traveler magazine and Editor of the Words and Wanderlust section of the BBC Travel website.

Don has visited more than seventy-five countries and has published more than 750 articles in newspapers and magazines around the world. He is co-founder and chairman of the annual Book Passage Travel Writers Conference. In the latest anthology edited by George, An Innocent Abroad: Life-Changing Trips from 35 Great Writers (Lonely Planet; $15.99) well-known writers and celebrities, including Dave Eggers, Richard Ford, Pico Iyer, John Berendt, Alexander McCall Smith and Jane Smiley share the travel experiences that shaped their personalities and changed their lives
