Mirta Ojito has been a reporter since 1987, and has worked for the Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, and the New York Times. She has received numerous awards, including a shared 2001 Pulitzer Prize for a series of articles in the Times about race in America. She is the author of two non-fiction books,Finding Mañana: A Memoir of a Cuban Exodus and Hunting Season: Immigration and Murder in an All-American Town (Beacon Press; $24.95). Hunting Season tells the true story of an immigrant’s murder that turned a quaint village on the Long Island shore into ground zero in the war on immigration. Drawing on firsthand interviews and on-the-ground reporting, Ojito has crafted an unflinching portrait of one community struggling to reconcile the hate and fear underlying the idyllic veneer of their all-American town, providing an invaluable look at one of the world’s most pressing issues.

Mirta Ojito nació en La Habana y llegó a Estados Unidos en 1980. Periodista desde 1987, ha recibido el premio de la Sociedad Norteamericana de Editores de Periódicos por sus reportajes en el extranjero y compartió el Pulitzer de reportajes nacionales en 2001 por la serie de The New York Times: “How Race Is Lived in America”. Ha trabajado para The Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald y The New York Times. Es autora de El mañana: memorias de un éxodo cubano y La cacería: una historia de inmigración y violencia en Estados Unidos.
