The Healthcare Confidential Podcast | Episode 33 "Telehealth Case Study: One Hospital’s Experience with Ken Long" Theresa Jacobellis |

While telehealth technology has been around for years, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic its use was primarily relegated to rural communities where access to care was an issue. Covid-19 made access a concern for everybody, and seemingly overnight, telehealth has been embraced by stakeholders around the country, including patients, providers, payers, and regulatory bodies.

In his role at Mount Sinai South Nassau, a hospital in Oceanside, New York that is part of the Mount Sinai Health System, Ken Long has been involved in the roll-out of an expanded telehealth program. He discussed his hospital’s experience with telehealth, including a look ahead at how the technology will be used in a post-pandemic world. He also shared candid stories of how his hospital, located in a hard-hit area of New York State, coped during the worst of the Covid outbreak in the spring.

The Take-Away: Telehealth will remain a popular tool, even after the Covid-19 pandemic ends. It knits together the healthcare system and offers patients greater access to super-specialists.
