The Healthcare Confidential Podcast | Episode 55 "The LI Alzheimer's & Dementia Center with Tori Cohen" Theresa Jacobellis |

A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is devastating, not only for patients but for the entire family. Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s is a tremendous challenge that can leave caregivers physically and emotionally depleted. Tori Cohen, Executive Director of the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center, is a passionate advocate for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers. Under her direction, the Center has expanded its range of services to help ease the burden on families. Even when the Center was forced to suspend its on-site due to the Covid-19 pandemic, its staff managed to find creative ways to connect with clients and provide assistance to those in need. With more than 6 million Alzheimer’s patients across the United States, there is a growing need for the types of outreach and support that LIAD provides.

The Take-Away: A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is life-changing, but not immediately life-ending. Patients and families can be supported to make the most of every day at every stage of the illness.

Learn more: LIAD is available to help Alzhiemer’s patients and families. Volunteers and donations are also welcome to help LIAD fulfill its mission. Visit www.lidementia.org or call 516-767-6856.

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Lucille R. Protano, Michael Protano, and all those who have battled Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
